What is the Belonging Need Pyramid?

Belonging is one of the needs in the hierarchy of needs pyramid. According to Abraham Maslow, the need for belonging is about feeling accepted and loved by others, especially our significant others. However, I believe we also have other belonging needs to fulfill to reach our full potential.

Feeling belong is not only about the people in your life, but also the environment. Anything that you are a part of, you want to make sure you fit and feel like you belong there. Below are the seven types of belongings that I believe will be difficult for you to avoid. If someone or something that is a part of you, you want to make sure you feel you are a part of it, belong.

What are the belonging needs? How do you fulfill them?

You: Building a strong relationship with yourself. You have to deal with yourself daily. Make sure you feel worthy and enough, and that you matter.

Family: They are the first people who enter your life and will always be a part of you. Make sure you feel safe, are heard, and contribute to building a strong family structure.

Friends: Your friend is your social group that you look to for comfort and support. Make sure you are accepting and supporting each other.

Work: You spend 80% of your life working, which is considered a lifestyle. Make sure you contribute to developing a positive work environment.

Community: You will always be a part of a community wherever you go. Use your strength and talent to improve your community.

Society: Everyone is a part of society. Use your passion to make the world a better place.

Humanity: Create a powerful legacy that no one will forget after you are gone.
